(English video version)
French TGV world speed record of 3rd April 2007 (574.8 kilometres per hour / 357 miles per hour).
(Previous official speed record for a train running on rails was 515.3 kmph, set in France in 1990; other unofficial records & maglev world record at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/L... )
The special train, called V150 (velocity 150 meters/second), is an enhanced version of trains that will run on the Paris-Strasbourg line from June 2007.
The V150 was made up of two normal cars that will run on the eastern TGV track and three double-decker carriages and can develop over 25,000 horsepower, twice that of a conventional TGV.
Record was set between Preny, near Metz in the east of France, and Bezannes near Reims.

Automobile577 (August 4, 2008 at 5:17 pm)
maybe

Probably so, but there is one crazy idea to put train into a vacuum tube under the surface of the ocean, train could reach over 800km/h, so who knows what we have in the future... =D
Automobile577 (July 31, 2008 at 9:45 pm)
well yeah because you don't have to take off and all, but cross country flights airplanes are probably the way to go
suharinos (July 31, 2008 at 9:15 pm)
Actually, trains are faster in shorter distances, say below 500km.
Automobile577 (July 31, 2008 at 2:58 pm)
very cool
airplanes are still better
but still cool

We Americans could take some lessons from the French and Europeans when it comes to transportation.

Well... There is no friction, between the maglev and the rail. But there is still the wind resistense. I saw a programme on Discovery, where they were talking about a tunnel between New York & London. That could be faster than com. planes, i think it was about 4000 kph. But they would have, to pump all the air out of the tunnel, before this was possible.

It would be the best crash cought on camera in the history of mankind.
